Police are looking into a number of incidents when a large convoy of vehicles and trailers arrived at Blaise Castle Estate during a family get-together.
It was alleged that the vehicles had entered the renowned estate, which is held by Bristol City Council, without permission on Saturday, July 25, during a family event dubbed Bristol’s Brilliant Archaeology.
A local reported that police had been summoned “several times,” adding: “By all accounts, they were causing mayhem on the roadways in the region this morning [Saturday].”
“We are away from them now, a pretty boisterous lot. They’re now riding dirt bikes around the grounds.”
The neighbouring area’s traffic was reportedly impacted as well.
A spokeswoman for Avon and Somerset authorities stated in an update on Sunday, July 26, that authorities were informed of the unapproved encampment and are currently investigating reports of criminal damage, anti-social conduct, and reckless driving.
“We were made aware of an unauthorised encampment based in Blaise Castle at around 12.10pm yesterday (Saturday, July 25),” the force spokesperson stated.
“Officers were there and conversed with several of the encampment’s residents as well as park visitors.
We are investigating instances of criminal damage, antisocial conduct, and reckless driving that occurred during lunch.
“We will assist the local authority with their work, as trespassing is a civil matter.”
One council employee stated that “those on the ground at the archaeology event have said that they have been largely unaffected” at the time, despite the fact that Bristol City Council has not yet released an official statement.
Despite the fact that the archaeology event was supposed to end at 4 p.m. on Saturday, a number of participants reported that they “left early” due to the automobiles on the site.
