At the Latitude Festival, Lewis Capaldi won, concluding Sunday night with a moving and emotional performance that brought several of the audience to tears.
The 29-year-old was greeted with one of the loudest applause of the weekend as he closed the main stage and concluded the 20th edition of the festival.
The audience exploded as Hollywood’s opening notes reverberated throughout Henham Park, establishing the mood for a performance that resembled both a concert and a celebration.
Thinking back to his last performance at Latitude, he revealed to the audience that he had experienced a panic attack while performing.
But this year, his message was far more upbeat.
He said to the crowd, “I’m having so much fun and I am so grateful to be here.”
After disclosing his mental health issues and Tourette syndrome diagnosis, Capaldi took a hiatus from touring in 2023.
He was talking about his difficulties one minute, and then he was making the audience laugh uncontrollably when he had to repeat a song due to a joke about menopause.
The Scottish sensation also took a moment to hint to the audience that he would sing Pointless, a song they co-wrote, with Suffolk’s own Ed Sheeran.
Capaldi reduced things down with a few acoustic performances that let his voice take center stage, even though he was accompanied by his band for the majority of the evening.
His raw rendition of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” was a standout performance, and the audience erupted in cheers.
The tunes that everyone had come to hear were, of course, there. The last minutes of Someone You Loved were unmatched, even though each chorus felt louder than the previous one.
One of the festival’s pivotal moments was created when thousands of voices carried the song across Henham Park as Capaldi moved away from the microphone.
