The tragedy happened this noon on Friday, July 24, when the kids were paddleboarding at the West Cornwall beach when a north-easterly offshore wind carried them away from land.
At 1:40 p.m., the Falmouth Coastguard contacted Penlee RNLI, who promptly launched its Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Mollie and Ivor Dent, manned by helm Andrew “Woody” Wood and RNLI volunteers Jack Bushnell and Matt Smith.
“The children were a little cold and frightened but thanks to ‘Woody’ and his crew this was a well-executed rescue in a very short time,” stated Penlee RNLI coxswain Patch Harvey.
After being safely returned to shore, the kids were reunited with their parents.
The public has been advised by the RNLI to exercise caution before going out on the water.
This entails keeping an eye on the weather and tide patterns, donning a personal flotation device, and dressing suitably for the circumstances.
Additionally, the organization cautioned against going out in offshore winds.
The Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat, which was used in the rescue, and an all-weather Severn class lifeboat are crewed by Penlee RNLI, which is based in Newlyn, Penzance.

Helm Andrew “Woody” Wood and RNLI volunteers Jack Bushnell and Matt Smith launched Penlee’s B class Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat, the Mollie and Ivor Dent, right away, and they crossed Mount’s Bay at top speed.
The children were caught out by a northeast force 4-5 offshore wind, according to the RNLI, but the lifeboat was able to safely return them to their parents on the beach.
