After being crushed while performing maintenance on an aircraft at Heathrow Airport, a Virgin Atlantic engineer passed away.
Following the horrific tragedy in a hangar at the busiest airport in Britain, Georgie Buxton, 23, spent four weeks in critical care.
When he was gravely hurt, he is thought to have been working on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
According to the Sun, he passed away after life support equipment was turned off earlier this month.
The incident at the West London airport has prompted a joint inquiry by the Metropolitan Police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Virgin Atlantic stated that it was “heartbroken” to learn of the passing of a “much-loved” member of its engineering team and that it was investigating the incident with the appropriate authorities.
Mr. Buxton announced his plan to leave Ryanair for his new position as an aircraft technician at Virgin Atlantic on LinkedIn two years ago.
According to his employment description, he was a “highly dedicated worker” with a “immense passion for aircraft engineering.”
He had previously been employed at Stansted by Ryanair.
“Our thoughts are firmly with Georgie’s family, loved ones, friends, and colleagues at this incredibly sad and challenging time,” a Virgin Atlantic representative stated.
“We’re sending our sincere condolences to everyone impacted and offering support to loved ones wherever we can.”

Nearly a month after being hurt while performing maintenance on a commercial aircraft at Heathrow Airport, a Virgin Atlantic engineer passed away.
Georgie Buxton, 23, is thought to have suffered severe injuries while working on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
The incident occurred early on June 11 and he passed away in the hospital on July 7, according to confirmation from the Metropolitan Police on Tuesday. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the force are working together on an inquiry.
Virgin Atlantic stated that it was “heartbroken” to learn of the passing of a “much-loved” member of its engineering team and that it was investigating the incident with the appropriate authorities.
“Officers attended the scene, alongside the London Ambulance Service,” a police spokesperson stated. “A 23-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, that happened while undertaking maintenance work on an aircraft.”
They stated that specialised officers are still providing help to Buxton’s family.
His death is scheduled to be the subject of an inquest.
Buxton began working for Virgin Atlantic two years ago, according to his LinkedIn profile.

The HSE said: “We are investigating this incident jointly with The Metropolitan Police.”
The Dreamliner’s manufacturer, Boeing, has refrained from commenting.
The Dreamliner is 206 feet (62.8 meters) long and can transport up to 325 passengers to long-distance locations.
